Spravato is FDA-approved for adults whose depression hasn’t responded to at least two antidepressants. If that’s your history, it’s exactly what the treatment is for, however many you’ve tried.
Most antidepressants act on serotonin, norepinephrine, or both. Spravato works on a different system altogether, the brain’s glutamate signalling. That’s why it can help people whose history suggests nothing will.

We know how hard it is to live with depression that hasn’t responded to treatment, so we’ve taken care of every detail we could think of, from your first call to your first treatment and beyond. More than 30,000 treatments have taught us a great many small things a newer clinic hasn’t had the chance to learn.
You take the spray yourself, sitting in a comfortable chair in a quiet space, with one of our Sherpas guiding you: the specially trained team members who look after you on every treatment day. Mints and candies are on hand for the taste.
Then you rest for two hours. Most people listen to music or doze. Our team monitors you the whole time and checks your blood pressure along the way.
Company if you want it, quiet if you don’t. A Sherpa is always on standby to spend time with you through the treatment, if you’d like the company. If you’d rather have it in peace, bring your own headphones, or use the eye masks and noise-cancelling headphones we keep on hand.
The first hour can feel strange: floaty, a little removed from the room. That’s expected, and it settles before you leave.
Someone else drives you home. You can drive again the next day, after a night’s sleep.

How do I know if I qualify?
Broadly, your depression hasn’t responded to at least two antidepressants. At your evaluation, be ready to talk about the medications you’ve tried for your depression.
How fast can I start?
Usually you’re evaluated within one business day of your first call, and in a treatment chair within two to three days. We start the insurance approval as soon as you reach out.
Is it covered by insurance?
Most plans cover Spravato with prior authorization, which we handle for you. Patients typically pay $0 with NJ Medicaid, or up to $40 a treatment with commercial insurance after the manufacturer’s SpravatoWithMe program. We confirm your exact cost before you commit.
What if my insurance says no?
Initial denials happen, especially with NJ Medicaid, and we’re incredibly persistent about appealing. You don’t have to do the paperwork.
Do I have to stop my current antidepressant?
No. Spravato can be prescribed on its own or alongside an oral antidepressant, so nothing is taken away to start. Most people continue what they’re on, and we make that call together.
Is this the same as the ketamine infusions I’ve read about?
Related, but not the same. Spravato is a nasal spray, it’s FDA-approved specifically for treatment-resistant depression, and it’s covered by insurance, which IV ketamine generally is not. It’s also given only in certified, monitored offices under a federal safety program.
